told about the investigation of david petraeus are getting ready to meet. that's this afternoon. a senior official is telling cnn details about general john allen's relationship with a socialite at the center of both investigations. this is a web of characters and connections that is impacting the team in charge of america's security. it is also delaying when the world will know who will be the next leader of nato. general john allen was to have a confirmation hearing this thursday on his way to becoming the supreme allied commander. that, of course, is now on hold while allen denied doing anything wrong, he is under investigation for potentially inappropriate e-mails he sent to this woman, jill kelley, the tampa socialite triggered the petraeus investigation. we'll get to exactly how in just a moment. the defense department's inspector general is going through e-mails allen and kelley sent to each other. >> the primary thing is that, you know, she wants her privacy protected. and i think that she's going to probably come out at some point and make a statement. >> privacy, of co

to the resignation of david petraeus. here's the latest on the players and the events. here's how it all started. it started when jill kelly, a friend of general petraeus, contacted the fbi about threatening emails she said she received from another woman. that woman was paula broadwell who wrote petraeus's biography. she said she used to jog with the general while he was leading the war in afghanistan. they got to know each other. the fbi checked petraeus's e-mail accounts and said they had not been compromised. petraeus was interviewed by the fbi, but it is unclear if broadwell has been questioned. i want to bring in joel kelly, her husband released this statement earlier today. this is the statement. it says, "we and our family have been friends with general petraeus and his family for over five years. we respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children." we are also now learning that paula broadwell revealed information regarding the investigation of the attack on the consulate in benghazi, li a libya. a video of her speaking in denver has now surface odd

, that jill kelley, we're talking about the same tampa housewife whom david petraeus' then mistress paula broadwell apparently saw as rival. a whole new chapter in a saga that since last friday has been one bombshell after another. and so far, all of them have something to do with kelley. she's a volunteer military liaison at the air force base, home of the u.s. central command in tampa, florida. kelley complained to the fbi last spring when paula broadwell was having an affair with petraeus allegedly harassed her with jealous e-mails. petraeus admitted the affair with broadwell but denies any elicit contact with kelley. so does general allen who was scheduled for a senate confirmation hearing this very week to become nato's supreme allied commander. today that's on hold, but he will continue in his position as the investigation continues. and all of that as the pentagon digs through 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other communications, many with kelley over a two-year period. >>> each revelation brings 100 new questions and my colleague chris lawrence joins me from the pentagon to
